Moped or "Motorized Bicycle" Safety
With the costs of fuel many people are seeking alternative means of transportation. Some people are looking at scooters, mopeds or motorized bicycles as that means of transportation. "People have to be cautious when purchasing these types of vehicles," said First Sergeant Mike Hoover, the assistant district commander of the Jasper Post. "Even though the vehicle might look like a motorized bicycle, moped, or scooter it may be a motorcycle under the law. Make sure when purchasing one of these vehicles you ask what size the engine is and how fast it is designed to travel," said Hoover.
Under Indiana law if you operate a two or three wheeled vehicle that has an engine larger than 50 cc or is designed to travel faster than 25 mph you are operating a motorcycle and are required to have a valid operator's license with a motorcycle endorsement.
